Seabrook has incredible potential. With the completion of the SH 146 expansion project, we now have a unique opportunity to revitalize our charming town while preserving its rich history and character. My vision is to breathe new life into Seabrook by attracting businesses that truly add value to our residents—not the port.
To achieve this, I will actively explore grant opportunities that support local business growth and infrastructure improvements. Additionally, I will advocate for greater waterfront utilization, ensuring that our community can fully enjoy the natural beauty that makes Seabrook special. Key initiatives include rebuilding the public boat ramp and restoring the pier, creating more recreational and economic opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
Another priority is to promote and revamp longstanding local businesses, many of which have been cornerstones of our community but are not recognized nearly enough. These businesses have contributed to Seabrook’s unique identity, and I believe they deserve greater support and visibility.
We need a solid, well-maintained infrastructure and a commitment to ongoing capital improvement projects that keep our city safe, clean, and accessible. Investing in our roads, utilities, public spaces, and essential services ensures a high quality of life for residents while supporting economic growth and sustainability. By prioritizing infrastructure maintenance and strategic improvements, we can build a resilient and thriving Seabrook for generations to come.
Our town is a unique, charming coastal community, and we must take intentional steps to preserve that identity while fostering thoughtful, sustainable economic growth.
Together, we can ensure that Seabrook remains a vibrant, thriving town—one that honors its past while embracing a bright future.
I strongly believe that our residents should have more opportunities to be directly involved in city developments. Community involvement is essential to ensuring that Seabrook grows in a way that reflects the values and needs of its citizens.
To achieve this, I propose creating more citizen-led committees. This would encourage greater public participation, bring fresh ideas to the table, and reduce reliance on city staff for concepts and information. Early involvement in the decision-making and planning process is critical, and empowering residents through committees would help shape the future of our community.
However, I also support committee term limits to ensure new perspectives are regularly introduced and to keep ideas fresh and innovative.
I would love to see the formation of the following committees:
Pine Gully Pier Task Force Committee – Focused on restoring and enhancing the pier for public use.
Seabrook Public Boat Ramp Task Force Committee – Dedicated to rebuilding and improving the public boat ramp.
Emergency Preparedness and Response Committee – Strengthening community readiness for storms and other emergencies.
Special Events Committee – Organizing and enhancing community events to bring residents together.
Visitors & Tourism Development Committee – Promoting Seabrook as a charming waterfront destination or a cruise stopover to/from Galveston.
Grant Opportunity Committee – Exploring available grants to fund community projects and improvements.
By increasing citizen involvement, we can harness the creativity, passion, and expertise of our community members to shape a stronger, more vibrant Seabrook.
I believe that, in the past communication from the city has been inconsistent. To build, trust, transparency, and engagement, we need a stronger, more impactful Public Affairs Department that prioritizes clear, timely, and accessible information for all residents.
My plan includes:
Enhancing digital communication – improving the city’s website, social media presence, and email updates to ensure residents receive important news, alerts, and updates in real time.
Expanding public outreach – hosting regular town halls, Q&A sessions and community forums to foster two-way communication between city officials and residents.
Increase transparency – making meeting recordings, decisions, and budget updates more readily available and easy to understand.
Strong communication builds strong communities. By revamping our Public Affairs Department we can ensure that every resident stays informed, engaged, and empowered to participate in shaping Seabrook’s future.
In July 2022, I proposed to the City Council that we begin video recording council meetings. Initially, I faced resistance from several fellow council members, but I remained persistent. Over time, we made progress. In 2023, the City Council approved a light makeover for the council chambers, which included fresh paint and new A/V equipment—an essential part of the process.
To ensure the feasibility of video recordings, we launched an 18-meeting pilot program in January 2024. Finally, in August 2024, the City Council officially voted to permanently live-stream and video record council meetings. Since the pilot program’s inception, I am proud to report an increase in community engagement, demonstrating the value of this initiative.
However, I believe we can take transparency even further. I would like to see all Boards and Commissions meetings video recorded as well. These advisory bodies play a critical role in guiding the City Council, enhancing public engagement, and providing specialized expertise.
Currently, we only audio record these meetings. While this meets the minimum legal requirements for record-keeping, it presents challenges—residents can listen to the discussions, but unless they recognize the speakers’ voices, it can be difficult to determine who is saying what. I believe we can do better. Video recording all Boards and Commissions meetings would ensure full transparency and accessibility for our residents.
By continuing to prioritize transparency, we can strengthen public trust, encourage civic engagement, and ensure that every resident has access to the decision-making process in our city.
